A Dance Odyssey#1 : New Venture by Milena Carbone

The first of Milena Carbone’s new series of improvisation dance performances – A Dance Odyssey – premiers today at The Carbone Gallery. Don’t miss it!

Milena Carbone’s website describes “A Dance Odyssey” as an improvisation dance performance, based on a YouTube playlist being screened in the background of the stage. One or two dancers are always performing in front of the video, improvising the dance with the music.

The first performance of A Dance Odyssey by Milena Carbone will take place TODAY Wednesday December 15th, at 1 pm SLT at The Carbone Gallery.

Milena notes that a second performance is already under design and will be hitting the stage sometime at the beginning of 2022.

Behind the Scenes (in the words of Milena Carbone)

Lalitha Carbone is my alt and main dancer.

After selecting a playlist of about 20 tracks, selected both for their musical and graphics quality, I practice improvising until I get a satisfactory result to make a performance. I use a set of about 800 dance variations, from baroque to contemporary, jazz, rock, disco and more.

For some occasions, I completely choreograph the performance. It is the specificity of the “A Dance Odyssey” series to give freedom of improvisation so that each performance is unique.

To enjoy video and music, you have to switch on your media stream (or “all media”), which is different from your music stream.

I mainly use the Spot On tools. The dances come from various brands available in Second Life.
