Featured Exhibition

Paved Paradise” by Ilyra Chardin

You don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone

The words on the poster sum up the essence of Ilyra Chardin’s art displayed on the second level of the Raging Graphix Gallery perfectly. This exhibition takes its title from the opening lines of Big Yellow Taxi, a song written, composed and recorded by Joni Mitchell in 1970, and since then covered a number of times, the most famous being Counting Crows.

The song and the exhibition itself touches upon the negative aspects of globalization and urbanization, due to which untouched countryside (“a paradise“) is being destroyed by greedy corporations to create industries, farmland, highways, railroads and a number of other things. Ilyra’s art, created in rich, vibrant colors, showcases the beauty of nature which is being chewed up by man-made creations acting as a blight in this natural paradise.

While it propagating a message about saving the abundant natural beauty in this world, “Paved Paradise” is also an experiential journey which offers a hard look at environmental destruction through Ilyra’s artistic lens.

Masterpiece of the Week

Loneliness – Original Artwork by Duna Gant

Duna Gant’s “Loneliness which can be viewed and purchased at Janus Gallery II is our masterpiece for this week. The visual imagery, consisting of snowy dunes reaching out and disappearing into the distance, embodies the titular feeling completely. As we continue to stare into the distance and the vast emptiness, the loneliness becomes somewhat comforting and even enjoyable to some extent. Having been confined to our homes for months on end, it is not surprising that social creatures such as us have become somewhat comfortable with the idea of solitude and loneliness. The minimalist style and the emotions it evoked within truly impressed us and naturally “Loneliness” found its way into the Art Korner Collection.
